Weebly Weebly

Weebly is a San Francisco, California based company that was founded in 2006 with the mission to help people put their information online quickly and easily. They now enable 2 million people to easily create personal sites and blogs or establish web presences for businesses, weddings, classrooms, churches, artistic portfolios, and more.

This clever WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) website building tool for non-techies offers a one-step process for adding content that's already somewhere else on the Web, such as Flickr photos, YouTube videos and Google maps. You can also add RSS feed readers that will display headlines that link back to the latest posts on your favorite blogs .  When you click-and-drag a YouTube video onto your page, a flash player appears with it, and you can adjust the viewing screen size. (This is different than posting a link that takes you back to the source; you're literally copying the content and pulling it into your site.) Creating a blog is as easy as creating a new page, and the page design templates let you hit the ground running; you can mouse over a particular layout to get a preview. Weebly also lets you use your own domain name, if you've got one, otherwise your site URL will be  This site is friendly to both PC and Mac users.  The drag and drop feature is fine for any ages.

The excellent thing about this site is that you can set up a classroom set of web pages for your students.  You can set and control the web sites that a group of students will  make as well as make them private so they do not appear on the Internet, only to the teacher and to the student.  This does take time, because there is information  to fill out when setting up the classroom.  See below for the information.

You need to register, but you do not need to reply to an email. Your students can get to work right away.  Lead them through one section so they may see how to add pages, drag and drop elements, etc.

Another great feature is that teachers can make homework pages for students, it's extremely easy.  And there is a page that you can make for submission of files and homework.  Play with this ahead of time, so you may see all that can be done.  Have fun...  This site is not only free, but there is no advertising.  Why?  Because the designers say so  ;)
